Virginia Wesleyan Among “Great Colleges to Work For, 2009”
The Chronicle of Higher Education's survey recognizes institutions for best practices and policies. Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Va. – The results of The Chronicle of Higher Education's survey of Great Colleges to Work For 2009 were released July 6, with Virginia Wesleyan College receiving honors in the “small-sized” institution (2,999 or fewer students) category. The Great Colleges to Work For program recognizes institutions for best practices and policies in 26 categories for four-year colleges. Within those categories, colleges are classified based on enrollment. The survey results are based on responses from more than 41,000 administrators, faculty members and staff members at 300 colleges and universities. “Virginia Wesleyan College strives to put our people first,” said Director of Human Resources Barb Fried. “We are very proud to receive this outside recognition." The Chronicle of Higher Education, based in Washington, D.C., publishes a daily Web site, a weekly newspaper and a weekly magazine of ideas. With a weekly print readership of 350,000, The Chronicle of Higher Education is the leading source of news, information and jobs for college and university faculty members and administrators.

Lori L. (Simpers) McCarel earned her B.A. in 1994 as part of VWC's Liberal Arts Management Program (LAMP). She has served in various capacities in the College's Center for Advancement since 2007 and was recently named Executive Director of Annual Giving and Alumni Relations.

Jennifer Marshall '08, a U.S. Navy veteran, actress, and real-life licensed private investigator, graduated magna cum laude from Virginia Wesleyan with a double major in international politics and Spanish and a minor in history. She has a new investigative documentary series, Mysteries Decoded, which airs on Tuesdays at 9:00 p.m. EST. on The CW.
