Why not graduate from college sooner?

Virginia Wesleyan University can make it possible for current high school students to earn college credits by completing college-level coursework. College credit earned while still in high school can be used to complete a degree at Virginia Wesleyan and other accredited colleges and universities.

Dual Enrollment Benefits

  • Students can earn college credit while satisfying requirements for high school graduation
  • Dual credit courses are offered at a reduced tuition cost
  • Enables students to earn a college degree at an accelerated rate
  • Allows students the flexibility to concentrate in a minor or second major when attending a 2- or 4-year institution
  • Students are guaranteed transfer credit to Virginia Wesleyan University; (most 2- and 4-year universities and colleges accept transfer credit from VWU)
  • High School instructors teach their students on-site at their high school
  • Instructors receive academic and administrative support from VWU

Course Options

College courses on Virginia Wesleyan's campus.
Get an early start on your college education! High school students who choose our Advanced Scholars program will attend college courses at Virginia Wesleyan in our classrooms alongside traditional students. You'll experience the excitement of college while earning credits toward your degree.
Note: students may take no more than two courses per semester in the Advanced Scholars program. 

College courses at your high school.
Through Virginia Wesleyan's dual-credit classes, you can complete courses and get college credit while attending classes in your own high school (subject to agreements with specific academies/high schools in the Coastal Virginia region).

Early college enrollment through Tidewater Collegiate Academy.
Exceptional students may enroll in Virginia Wesleyan classes full-time while completing their high school diplomas at the Tidewater Collegiate Academy on the campus of Virginia Wesleyan.

Admission Requirements

In addition to the above, applicants who are non-native English speakers will be required to demonstrate English proficiency. This requirement may be met with a TOEFL score of 80 or higher, an IELTS of 6.5 or higher, or through an interview with a representative of the
