Accepting Your Awards

Entrance Counseling
If you accept the subsidized and/or unsubsidized loans on your award letter, you are required to complete entrance counseling online at studentloans.gov. Entrance counseling will introduce you to the many aspects of Direct Loans, including interest rates, repayment plans, loan eligibility, etc. Until entrance counseling is completed, the government will not disburse your subsidized and/or unsubsidized loan money. If you have borrowed subsidized and/or unsubsidized loans in the past, you are not required to complete entrance counseling again.

Master Promissory Note (MPN)
If you accept the subsidized and/or unsubsidized loans on your award letter, you are required to complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) online at studentloans.gov. The MPN is the loan agreement between you and the federal government. Until the MPN is completed, the government will not disburse your subsidized and/or unsubsidized loan money. If you have borrowed direct subsidized and/or unsubsidized loans in the past and your MPN has not expired, you are not required to complete another MPN.

Verification:
If your FAFSA was selected for verification, by either the Central Processing System or VWU, you must complete the required verification worksheet before your aid can be awarded to you. Please contact the Financial Aid Office if you are not sure which worksheet you need to complete.

Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant:
If you are a Virginia resident and are accepting the Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant (VTAG) award on your award letter, you must complete the VTAG application and turn it in to VWU's Financial Aid Office.

Work-Study Program:
If Work-Study is listed as an item on your award letter, you are eligible to apply for a position. Please log in to WebAdvisor to apply beginning the first Monday in August.
Please note that work study is only listed to show that you are eligible to apply. In order to participate in the program, you must be selected for a position. Positions are limited so not all students that apply will be able to participate.
