On-Campus Worship
AS ONE: Music & Message
AS ONE is a vibrant, weekly, student-led worship experience held Sunday afternoons in Monumental Chapel during the academic semester. This Christian worship service includes contemporary music, prayer experiences, a Biblical message, and time for community building.
Students have opportunities to develop and share their gifts through preaching, public speaking, music, singing, sound, and video production. After worship, students are invited to continue the conversation through Bible Community, a student-led Bible study for deeper connection and discussion.
Monumental Chapel and Beazley Recital Hall
Monumental Chapel and Beazley Recital Hall serve as important gathering spaces for worship, reflection, music, and community life at Batten University.
Monumental Chapel is open to students, faculty, staff, and friends of the University. It is also available to the general public for events when scheduling is approved through the Director of Campus Ministries Office and placed on the Chapel calendar.

On-Campus Worship
Youth Sunday
Youth Sunday brings middle school and high school students from the community to campus for an interactive worship experience led by Batten University Campus Ministries students. The gathering was created after COVID as a way to help youth reconnect, worship, and grow in community.
What makes the gathering meaningful is that it is led by college students who are open about their own faith journeys. Youth participants connect with these student leaders through worship, conversation, games, and small-group discussion.
What to Expect
- 4:00 PM Arrival and name tag pickup
- Opening Icebreaker game, welcome, and group introductions
- Worship Prayer, praise music, and an interactive student-led message
- Small Groups Discussion, reflection, testimony, and youth participation
- 5:30 PM Dinner together in the dining hall
- 6:30 PM Most groups depart; dining hall closes at 7:00 PM
Dining note: The dining hall does not accept cash. Groups should plan to use a leader’s charge card for payment.
Community Worship Partner
Worship at Haygood UMC
Our partnership with Haygood United Methodist Church gives Batten University students meaningful opportunities to engage in worship and service. Located just minutes from campus, Haygood UMC offers both traditional and modern Sunday morning services, making it an accessible and welcoming place for students to deepen their faith.
Haygood UMC is also home to two key Batten University leaders. Rev. Doug Sasser, Haygood’s pastor, serves as Batten University’s Associate Chaplain, and Marie Porter, Haygood’s Director of Discipleship, serves as Batten University’s Director of Campus Ministries. Their leadership strengthens the bridge between campus and church.
Beyond worship, Haygood UMC encourages student participation in lay reading, serving communion, singing, teaching children’s Sunday School, internships, and community outreach. Students also take part in events such as Trunk or Treat and Journey to Easter, a live reenactment of the final days of Christ’s life.
Through this partnership, Batten students find not only a place to worship, but also a way to serve, connect, and grow in their faith.
