Privacy Information
All student education records at Batten University are maintained in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), also known as the Buckley Amendment. FERPA protects the privacy of student educational records, establishes students' right to inspect and review those records, and provides guidelines for correcting inaccurate or misleading information.
Student consent is required before records covered by FERPA may be released to outside parties — such as prospective employers — except for agencies entitled to access under the Act, including:
- University personnel with a legitimate educational interest
- Federal educational and auditing officials
- Federal and state law enforcement and judicial officials
- Agencies related to the application for or receipt of financial assistance
Any other access requires written authorization from the student, with the exception of directory information, which includes:
- Student name
- Address
- Telephone numbers
- Email address
- Major field of study
- Dates of attendance
- Degrees, awards, and honors received (including dates)
- Photographic or electronic images
- Most recent previous educational institution attended
All other information — including grades, courses, days and times of course meetings, withdrawals, age, and birthdate — cannot be disclosed without the student's written consent.
