Virginia Teacher Licensure Requirements

The Batten University Teacher Preparation programs are accredited through a process approved by the Virginia Board of Education (VBOE).

Federal regulations (34 CFR 668.43) require institutions to disclose educational requirements for programs leading to professional licensure. Students interested in teaching in states other than Virginia should contact the Teacher Education Office before enrolling to confirm how the program aligns with their state’s requirements — we can provide the information needed when applying for an out-of-state license with Virginia credentials.

Submission Deadlines for All Programs

Required assessment scores must be received by the Education Department by:

  • October 15 — if student teaching the following spring
  • March 15 — if student teaching the following fall

Students must request that official test score reports be sent directly to Batten University. Candidates are responsible for scheduling all exams through the designated testing sites.
