In partnership with Brown Advisory
Student Managed Investment Fund
Learning by Doing — with Real Stakes.
The Brown Advisory Student Managed Investment Fund Program provides students with a real-world opportunity to develop and apply their investment skills. Students take primary responsibility for researching, recommending, and executing equity trades with live fund dollars — not a simulation, not a class exercise.
The program is open to all Batten Honors College students regardless of major, and meets weekly. Students have the opportunity to earn course credit through their participation.
The program is led by Dr. Nadia Nafar, Associate Professor of Business and Assistant Dean of the VWU Global Campus.
What the Program Offers
Live Fund Management
Students research, recommend, and execute real equity trades with actual fund dollars. There's no better classroom than the market itself.
Mentorship & Networking
The program connects scholars with investment professionals through mentorship relationships and networking opportunities that extend well beyond the classroom.
Conferences & Competitions
Students participate in regional and national investment conferences and competitions, putting their research and presentation skills to work against peers from institutions across the country.
