We welcomed the Virginia Wesleyan University Board of Trustees to campus recently for their fall meeting. It was a productive gathering in the newly renovated board room in the Boyd Dining Center. Thanks to support from private donors, the University updated the Board of Trustees Suite, the President's Dining Room, and Founders Foyer during the spring and summer. This was the first meeting since John Malbon became Chair, as part of a rotation process of the chair's position that occurs every three years. We thank both John and Immediate Past Board Chair David Kaufman for their outstanding leadership. The Board remains in excellent hands. We are fortunate to have a supportive and actively engaged group of business and civic leaders stewarding our University.
The Board voted on several important items, including a third freezing of tuition for the 2020-2021 academic year. During the meeting, we announced the naming of The Malbon Center for Technology in honor of Board Chair John Malbon (pictured bottom left). The center has a physical home on campus in Pruden Hall and a virtual presence in all areas of VWU Online. We give special thanks to John for his strategic leadership of our technology initiatives and his longtime service to VWU. His impact on the institution touches every component--including student recruitment and retention, financial management, student experience, and academic innovation. To cap off the meeting, members of our Board enjoyed an Esports demonstration and tour of the new Marlins Esports Arena (bottom right). |

DR. SCOTT D. MILLER
Dr. Scott D. Miller is president of Virginia Wesleyan University. Respected as one of the most entrepreneurial higher education executives in America, he is in his 29th year as a university president. Dr. Miller has dedicated his career to the opportunities available through education. He especially values the small, classical, liberal arts college environment that offers students personalized pathways to life and career success. Previously, he was president of Bethany College (2007-2015), Wesley College (1997-2007), and Lincoln Memorial University (1991-1997). He was also Executive Vice President (1988-1991) and Vice President for Development (1984-1988) at Lincoln Memorial University and Director of College Relations and Alumni Affairs at Rio Grande College (now University) in Ohio.
