The Beacon at Virginia Wesleyan University

Thanks to the generosity of a donor, we recently unveiled the new 121-foot high Beacon on campus. Overlooking the University Commons, the Beacon continues to symbolize VWU's United Methodist heritage and the passion of those who laid our University's foundation. It also serves as a guiding light for those paving the way for our very promising future. This past holiday season, it was also part of a new tradition on campus. A freshly planted 14-foot Leyland Cypress provided the centerpiece for this year's traditional Christmas Tree Lighting, held in a new location on campus--behind Monumental Chapel and adjacent to The Beacon. The light tower at the top of The Beacon will be used to signify athletic victories. A walkway and terrace surrounding Monumental Chapel and The Beacon are currently underway. The area will be a beautifully landscaped entrance to the Chapel and provide a place for reflection and inspiration.
