It has been a busy and exciting summer on campus, around town, and beyond. Dr. Miller's travels took him to Atlanta (top left) for the annual meeting of the National Association of Colleges and Universities of the United Methodist Church (NASCUMC). At the conclusion of the meeting, Dr. Miller was elected president of NASCUMC, effective July 1. He will continue to serve as the spokesperson for our diverse and valued Methodist institutions, advocating for inclusiveness of all people, and providing vital leadership for Methodist higher education during this critical time in the Church's history. Back in Coastal Virginia, Dr. Miller attended the "60 Years of Partnership" celebration at the Norfolk Botanical Garden. The program recognized the sister city partnership between Kitakyushu and Norfolk which was established in 1959. The program was led by (top right) VWU Trustee and alumnus Gary Bonnewell '79 and Norfolk Mayor Kenny Alexander. Following the ceremony, President Miller had the opportunity to meet with Norfolk Mayor Alexander and Norfolk State University President Javaune Adams-Gaston to discuss happenings within the City of Norfolk, international collaboration, and higher education.
On campus, Dr. Miller met with our TowneBank partners (bottom left), Morgan Davis, President and CEO, and Ellen Keeter, Executive Vice President, to visit and share updates. Topics included progress on the Coastal 61 at Oxford Village residential project and VWU's progress over the past four years. We are grateful to TowneBank for their generous support in creating our "field of dreams," TowneBank Park--a completely renovated softball and baseball facility at Virginia Wesleyan that opened in March.
We are fortunate to have so many effective and thoughtful leaders working together to make a positive impact within our community.

Dr. Scott D. Miller is president of Virginia Wesleyan University. Respected as one of the most entrepreneurial higher education executives in America, he is in his 29th year as a university president. Dr. Miller has dedicated his career to the opportunities available through education. He especially values the small, classical, liberal arts college environment that offers students personalized pathways to life and career success. Previously, he was president of Bethany College (2007-2015), Wesley College (1997-2007), and Lincoln Memorial University (1991-1997). He was also Executive Vice President (1988-1991) and Vice President for Development (1984-1988) at Lincoln Memorial University and Director of College Relations and Alumni Affairs at Rio Grande College (now University) in Ohio.
