2018 Outstanding Non-Profit in Fundraising Award
It was an honor to accept the Outstanding Non-Profit in Fundraising Award last month from Laurie Harrison, President of the Association of Fundraising Professionals Hampton Roads chapter. Virginia Wesleyan was recognized for its strong record of philanthropic support that has led to new campus construction, two national-niche programs (the Batten Honors College and the Greer Environmental Sciences Center), upgrades of athletic facilities, and enhanced information technology--all constituting an astonishing transformation at our campus in just three years.
Although the Outstanding Non-Profit in Fundraising Award is a wonderful honor for Virginia Wesleyan, we owe tremendous gratitude to those who make our success possible. Leadership support of VWU enriches our mission of teaching, scholarship and service. We appreciate those who joined us at the VWU table to celebrate at last month's luncheon: Trustee Mary Haddad, Annie Miller, VWU Senior Vice President Dr. Mort Gamble, Trustee Susan Goode, Trustee John Malbon and Trustee Emerita Jane Batten. Other trustees at the event included Joan Brock, Louis Ryan, Vince Mastracco, and Sharon Goodwyn. We're proud and grateful this honor was featured in Inside Business. Dr. Scott D. Miller is president of Virginia Wesleyan University. Respected as one of the most entrepreneurial higher education executives in America, he is in his 28th year as a university president. Dr. Miller has dedicated his career to the opportunities available through education. He especially values the small, classical, liberal arts college environment that offers students personalized pathways to life and career success. Previously, he was president of Bethany College (2007-2015), Wesley College (1997-2007), and Lincoln Memorial University (1991-1997). He was also Executive Vice President (1988-1991) and Vice President for Development (1984-1988) at Lincoln Memorial University and Director of College Relations and Alumni Affairs at Rio Grande College (now University) in Ohio.
